It's been 1 year since we started the Hunt Harvest Health podcast, and what a year it's been! Thank you to everyone who has supported us, listens, and shares our content! We are here because of you! *
Today's podcast is our 3rd listener Q and A...
Ryan and Hillary sit down to help Zach Kenner of Hard Working Hunter promote the launch of his new short film True Conservation. This summer we were able to view the movie at the Northwest Mountain Challenge and it touched us greatly. So we invited Zach into our home for a meal and to talk about why he did this film and it's not what you think.
Today's podcast is all about our busiest time of the year: Harvest season. Whether it's food from the garden, forest, or an animal that Ryan takes, preserving and getting these foods ready for the winteris a lot of work.
Ryan and Hillary share their stores about harvest season, some of their recommendations on dehydration and canning, and they share a few stories from years gone by.
Ryan spent most of his young life in nature hiking, scouting, and hunting. Skills learned from his father shaped his love for the outdoors and the a healthy respect for the balance of life. In today's podcast, Ryan takes his oldest daughter Pailey Belle hiking and possibly bear hunting for the 1st time. Even though she is only 8, not old enough to hunt by herself, she is very excited to be on the hunt with her Dad.
Ryan meets up with the Hunt Wild film boys, Jeff Lust, Paul Hallerr, and Eric Forslin. He interviews them about Paul's 2017 Nevada Mule Deer Hunt, where he drew the same unit that Ryan did. This is a fun conversation that travels through the high country of Nevada and Paul Haller's mule deer hunt.
This hunt was dedicated to Paul's father who died only 7 months ago. In his own words from a recent IG @p_hallerr post:
This is a long story. One that has taken me nearly 20 years to write. If you don’t have a relationship in your life, then this story may not interest you, but if you love, are, or know anyone who has a passion greater than most, you may get something from it. It wasn’t an easy story to live or write about. It’s not easy to share our flaws, our secrets, our fears. Relationships, especially marriages, usually always have something to teach us. My teacher was coming to love a man who loves hunting, and through that, realizing that I didn’t need to make him choose. He could love us both.
In this podcast Ryan and Hillary sit down at the Oregon Waterfowl Festival/NW Elk Camp with Scott and Beth Carr of Hammer and Chisel. They talk about a wide range of topics from hunting, health, marriage, and in the end they all get personal about themselves and what they are most grateful for (including Ryan and Hillary).
We've known Zach Kenner for the last year from his Youtube channel- Hard Working Hunter, but a few weeks ago, Ryan got the pleasure of shooting with Zach at the NW Mountain Challenge at Stevens Pass Washington. Ryan then ventured over to Zach's Eastern Washington home and sat down for a great conversation about his lifelong love and exposure to hunting.
Happy 4th of July 2017! If you are an American, this day is synonymous with summer, fireworks, and celebration! It seems there is no better way to get this day going than with a fabulous group of ladies talking about the freedoms we hold dear! Jana Waller of Skullbound TV and Kristy Titus of Pursue the Wild take an hour out of their busy speaking schedules at the NW Elk Camp in Oregon, to talk with Dr. Hillary about all kinds of things!
We had no idea when we started this podcast, that within months of launching we would be talking to people like Tim Burnett of Solohntr. For years Ryan has been a fan of Solohntr on the Outdoor Channel, since he has been a solo hunter for most of his hunting career. Like most of the amazing people we have met in the last year, Train to Hunt seems to be the common denominator, which is where Ryan met Tim.
