Happy 4th of July 2017! If you are an American, this day is synonymous with summer, fireworks, and celebration! It seems there is no better way to get this day going than with a fabulous group of ladies talking about the freedoms we hold dear! Jana Waller of Skullbound TV and Kristy Titus of Pursue the Wild take an hour out of their busy speaking schedules at the NW Elk Camp in Oregon, to talk with Dr. Hillary about all kinds of things!
We had no idea when we started this podcast, that within months of launching we would be talking to people like Tim Burnett of Solohntr. For years Ryan has been a fan of Solohntr on the Outdoor Channel, since he has been a solo hunter for most of his hunting career. Like most of the amazing people we have met in the last year, Train to Hunt seems to be the common denominator, which is where Ryan met Tim.
In the hunting world, Kristi Titus is a celebrity. With stunning eyes, big smile, and a laugh that is immediately recognizable, Kristi's appeal and down to earth heart is like a breath of fresh air. She loves who she is, what she stands for, and has big goals to share the "culture" of hunting with anyone who will listen.
Ryan and Dave met one year ago at the Nevada Train to Hunt, and since then have forged a great friendship. Dave has been a role model for Ryan in pushing his physical limits, leadership, and creating more optimism in life. If you don't know Dave, you probably know him as one of the face's of Cabela's, and as a lead in the hunting show Outback Outdoor's on the Outdoor Channel. He guides in Wyoming, travels the world hunting and filming, resides over 170 weddings per year, and is a great Dad to his two kids when home! Proud of his hunting history, he also helps to research black bears in the Sierra Nevada's, as well as other conservation and public lands issues. There is so much we could say about Dave, but the best would be from his own words- Lead by Example.
It's rare these days to find someone who has lived the true life of the Western Elk hunter like our friend Ryan Altus. Raised in the woods of Idaho, Ryan discovered a love for elk hunting at the age of 8 when he accompanied his Dad on an archery hunt. Since then, he has achieved great success in harvesting large, mature bulls, each and every year. His stories of solo hunting elk in Idaho, New Mexico, and Arizona in the 2016 season are epic, and even more epic is the love and respect he gained for these animals from his father, who passed away from cancer in June of 2016. This is a great conversation with a humble, knowledgeable, and successful bowhunter.
Today's podcast was great fun for us to record. Visiting Jesse and Amanda Wise at their home in Oregon, we got to sit down and talk about hunting, Train to Hunt, family, hunting styles, and faith. Jesse is the 2016 Train to Hunt Director, and both him and Amanda are National TTH champs in the doubles division. These two have their hands full with 5 amazing kids, homeschooling, and a strong faith community. They are two people you just want to be around, there energy and positivity are contagious!
Today we talk with one of our good friends and a powerhouse in the field of hormones and metabolic health, Dr. Jade Teta. Acclaimed physician, author, health entrepeneur, and mindset coach, Jade is all about developing your mind, muscle, and metabolism. Jade is not a hunter, but he has a great respect for the male physiology and how the hunt improves man.
In this episode, Ryan and Hillary talk with Stephen and James Lathrop of Lathrop and Sons, the industry premiere custom boot fitters - and now boot makers! The current launch of their Mountain Hunting Elite and Mountain Hunter boots is a dream 15 years in the making.
It's important in life to have a best friend, and if that best friend is your cousin, it's even better. Ryan talks today with his cousin/hunting partner Joey Pyburn. Joey is Ryan's exact opposite, loquacious and social, but together they make a hard working pair of backcountry partners. Look for Joey to be a regular part of our podcast!
